This year the Cello Weekend is back!
Saturday / Sunday April 9-10, 2022 at the University of Chichester, Bishop Otter Campus, from 10am-4:30pm
- Workshops • Masterclasses • Cello orchestra • Chamber music
The Chichester Cello Weekend, organised by me (Professor Laura Ritchie), brings cellists keen to develop their performing skills, technique, and musical appreciation together for a remarkable weekend of music making. All music is arranged to suit participants’ individual levels, and everyone plays in a fantastic cello-orchestra that rehearses throughout the two days. Sunday’s gala concert is open to friends and family.
Music ranges from arrangements of popular hits to Bach to a collaboration with the gypsy jazz violinist Duane Padilla, who will be dropping in online from Hawaii to workshop and solo with us! We also have a special commission written for this Cello Weekend by the Greek composer Pyrros Marmatakis. Join us!
The first Cello Weekend was over 20 years ago!
Every year we do something different and something fun. This was one of the highlights from 2014:
Photos and snippets of videos from Cello Weekends from 2014-2020 are here. Over the past two years, live music making seriously suffered. What a few years of pandemic living?! We’ve (almost) returned to normal, and I am SO PLEASED to invite cellists from near and far to be a part of this 2022 Cello Weekend.
If you live across the country, you can still come. Chichester is a lovely place to visit and all the flowers will be in bloom. Why not make a weekend of it and treat yourself to a musical retreat? It is a wonderful way to spend two days making music and spending time learning with others.
I can’t wait to welcome face-to-face music making once again, and in case you wondered there will be space to socially distance. This way we can all be comfortable.
Booking is via Ticketsource.
Fee for the weekend is £60 students/£75 adults. If you have any questions, I am very happy to chat with you! Do get in touch!
