Recital recording

If you missed my recital concert last weekend, or were disappointed by the quality of the live stream (sorry about that! there were last minute technical hitches that meant I had to use the built in mic and video of my laptop) there’s good news!

The HD fancy camera I set up did work!

Here’s the first I played. I am accompanied by Ben Lathbury on the lush Steinway Fancy D piano (from 1876). The piano is triple strung for another octave and has a tonne and a half less tension on the strings. I love it.

There is a spoken introduction to the performance and the music begins at 4 minutes 20 seconds.
Cello Sonata C. Debussy (1862-1918)
i.               Prologue: Lent, sostenuto e molto risoluto
ii.              Sérénade: Modérément animé
iii.            Final: Animé, léger et nerveux

  1. Love hearing your playing, exciting and full of energy! Great cello sound and matching so much with the piano! Any other track of the other pieces? By the way, you look great on this dress too!

  2. Oh my goodness this is absolutely breathtaking. The strength and clarity and tone of the cello, the depth of the emotions. I really appreciated the lead-in (a reminder that sometimes people take Debussy too lightly).

So happy the HD camera worked. I felt like I was there. Thanks so much for sharing this. And I do so hope that someday I’ll hear you in person. Bravo.

A side note: Watching this on my uncle Frank’s birthday (he would have been 104) makes me sad that you two never met, never played together. I think he would have enjoyed that — two great musicians meeting at soul level.

    peace,

    geoff
